Comments: (12/10/04) - "{The owner} was wonderful and the place is a destination with views of the Smokies. We had a concrete pad with 20 and 50 volt, water and dump right there so we were in heaven. We rode in her hayed fields.". . .(5/3/08) - "Fantastic cottage! Great paddock for my young horses. Attentive host. Thanks for a great stop!". . .(7/29/08) - "Wonderful accommodations for horses and people. Strongly recommend. The owner was more than gracious when we showed up at 3am (more than slightly ahead of schedule). Sorry for that!". . . (5/19/10) - "We have stayed in many places over five years of traveling with horses and always look forward to Teresa's place. We had too much rain to go out riding on the WA Creeper trail but we took the truck off and went out to dinner and real theater in town. Great destination for a trailering or cottage stop. We used her cottage for TV.". . . (5/4/15) - "Lovely cottage to stay. Paddock with attached two stalls for horse. Nice for the horse to stretch his legs. Would worry if the horse was not used to grass as stall is small.". . . (10/12/15) - "This farm was a nice stopover. The cottage had every amenity, including g full Direct TV. It was clean and I could see my horse who was 25 feet away in a grassy paddock. The stalls were dirt run ins attached to paddock. No contact with other horses. If your horse is not used to grass this may not be the best as the stalls are small after having been in a trailer. Perfect place to let them stretch their legs in a beautiful setting. Teresa was a great host. Highly recommend.". . . (9/15/18) - "Absolutely the best horse hotelier ever! Teresa is a super host! Had to emergently stop due to a horse problem and Teresa arranged for the vet to attend to my horse within minutes of arrival. Also accommodated my other two horses in stalls. I slept in my trailer but she has an adorable cottage as well. Reasonably priced and safe."

Comments:  (Editor's Comments: Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.)
(5/8/18) - "Too good to be true!! Right off the interstate, pristine clean, large, well bedded stalls and a knowledgeable caretaker in Carl Richardson. This is our second visit and won’t be our last. Goose Creek Farm is a gem. Mr. Richardson met me on our first visit at the end of his driveway so I would not miss it. On our second visit, he waited for us at the end of the driveway, outside in the dark, in a thunderstorm and guided us to the barn with a flashlight. Hotels and restaurants are 5 minutes away. Easy to pull into the driveway with big rigs. What a FIND!!". . . (7/4/18) - "Very pleased with accommodations. Will be staying there again! Mandy Owen.". . . (8/10/18) - "My horses , my dogs (3) and myself had a wonderful layover at Goose Creek Farm. I stayed in my trailer on the property; it was quiet and peaceful. The farm is well maintained. My dogs had a great time playing in the round pen. The pen my horses stayed in had a run in shed and a clean water trough. I highly recommend staying at this farm.". . . (10/23/18) - "Call Richardson, the owner, was very friendly and offered great service. Good power and water. Good turn out with big airy stalls. We highly recommend this facility. Easy access from Rte. 81.". . . (2/15/19) - "I honestly can't say enough good things about this beautiful farm, or the kind gentleman who owns it. Lush grass, plenty of stabling and pasture options, and very safe and secure fencing. But even more wonderful was Carl, who understands that trailering long distance means sometimes needing to arrive late, and take a lot of patience to reload a horse again in the morning. He met us by the road waaaaaay after dark with a light to help identify the farm, and had infinite patience and encouragement for us when our mare took over and hour to load again the next morning. This place is a true sanctuary for traveling equines and their humans!". . . (5/10/19) - "This is a great facility. The owner, Carl, gave me directions on the phone and was waiting at his driveway when I arrived. He was very friendly and responsive to questions. The stall was excellent with shavings and 2 buckets of water ready for my horse. Hookup was fine with plenty of room to manuever. I loved this layover and will definitely stay here again.". . . (8/17/19) - "Great and safe facility for our horses. Perfect set up for our LQ and accommodating with our unforeseen delays! Highly recommend.". . . (4/16/19) - "While planning a 10 day trip to northern Tennessee from central Virginia, I found the listing for Goose Creek Farm. After reading all of the positive reviews, I cancelled my reservations at a State Park and made my reservations with Carl, which included a second stay on my return trip. As everyone else has stated, Carl met my rig at the entrance to his farm and made sure my mule and I were settled in before he walked back to his home for the evening. Accommodations for my mule and trailer were wonderful; everything is neat and clean. As a single woman traveling, I felt very safe spending the night at Goose Creek. If my future travels take me in his area, I will definitely stay again.". . . (5/20/20) - "I HIGHLY suggest a stay at this beautiful farm. We arrived around 10:00PM and the owner was standing at the end of his drive, with a flashlight to guide us in. He directed us clearly to where we were parking our 38' trailer and told us where our horses would stay. Fresh, clean water awaited my horse and a muck fork and wheelbarrow awaited us. Mr. Richarson is a fantastic host to a beautiful farm. He even woke very early to help us depart. We are thankful to have found such a warm, inviting farm. Thank you!". . . (5/24/20) - "We have used Goose Creek as a stopover several times while transporting horses during long-distance moves. This last trip was extremely hectic due to bad weather, but we knew Goose Creek had everything we would need for a restful evening for our horses, dogs, kids, and us. Parking for both rigs we were pulling was more than sufficient. I am an amateur driver of a 35-foot, four horse Lakota with living quarters, and I was able to easily pull into the boarding facility and back it out the next morning, with help from Mr Richardson, the owner. He is very customer-service oriented, and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure his guests have everything they need. He even had an equine veterinarian ready for me last year when I was hauling a horse with potential medical issues. I usually use the paddock for my horses to stretch their legs and graze after the long ride, but this last visit included an overnight storm. I was able to move my three horses in the night from the paddock to very nice, clean and safe stalls for shelter. I will always use Goose Creek for overnight stays whenever I can schedule my route through Bristol, VA."

Comments: (9/6/12) - "What a pleasure to place our horses in the care of Kathlyn for the night. Everything was more then we had expected. Clean, spacious, and safe for both horses and our equipment. The farm is very close to I-95 with overnight lodging very close by. Kathlyn, was in the barn to greet us and made us feel like one of the family. We will definitely stay at Redfield Farms again in our travels from Vermont to Florida. Thank you Kathlyn for taking such good care of our horses and us. Jake and King, Beligan 2300 lb.+ pulling horses say thank you for the hay and the treats of fresh carrots was much appreciated.". . . (12/25/13) - "I had the best experience staying overnight on my trip from Ocala to Boston! We traveled with 2 rigs and came in much later then we hoped. The owners were very nice and helpful; the stalls were big and clean. I will absolutely love to stay again on my way back to Ocala this winter ! Thank you for your great hospitality!". . . (4/6/14) - "These guys were great, meeting us late at night to help unload. Kept our stallion and 3 other horses safe and sound. We stayed last year on the way home to Vermont from Florida and just arranged to stay over next week again. Make this your half way stop!". . . (6/4/14) - "Nicest over night stabling I've ever experienced. Stalls were large clean, neat, and safe. Turnout was well fenced and safe. The owners were very helpful and made the experience as easy as possible. I had a trailer issue and Kathryn and Chuck helped me get service. They stored my trailer until all the parts could be collected and the trailer repaired.". . . (8/8/15) - "Very convenient to I-95. Owners were very accommodating for all of our needs. The facility is extremely clean. I highly recommend Red Field Farm.". . . (8/13/15) - "The Redfield Farm was by far the friendliest overnight stable we stayed at. They greeted us as we arrived at 9 pm . They had a stall ready. As we were attending to our tired Warmblood Dennis, the owner, was cleaning out our trailer for us. Wonderful, clean, safe facility.". . . (1/11/16) - "Very helpful people. Best place I have ever stayed over with horses.". . . (10/7/16) - "Highly recommend. Great people. Great facility.". . . (12/2/19) - "Extremely satisfied with our stay. The barn and stalls are very clean and Chuck was great to deal with. Great place to stop on our way back from Florida.". . . (4/4/19) - "This is a 10++++horse hotel. Great people, wonderful facility. Makes the trip to and from FL very easy. Thank you!!!!". . . (12/3/19) - "These facilities are stunning. The host, Chuck, was so gracious and made my Frosty so completely comfortable. I will be back anytime I travel and highly recommend this horse hotel! Thanks for giving us such great care. Mari. Comments: (10/20/04) - "Thanks for a great time! Clean barn and turnout area. Hotels and food were within 5 min. drive. May I suggest a bed & breakfast? I think your response would be great! Highly recommended facility.". . .(12/4/04) - "Great place - I've arrived at all hours of the morning and they have been very welcoming.". . .(10/10/05) - "Mike & Vicki are very friendly and extremely knowledgable about horses. I was amazed at the level of care they provided for our 'girls' during our relocation from California to the Richmond, VA area. I highly recommend this facility!". . .(12/9/05) - "Great people, they checked on my nervous horse several times during the night and moved him to the round pen once it was clear he wasn't happy in the stall. Clean and safe. Highly recommend for anyone traveling.". . .(12/13/05) - "One of my horses was injured during the few hours of turnout and they were very, very helpful in getting him to cross ties (very lame) and calling the vet and offering for me to stay as long as I needed.". . .(10/15/06) - "{The owners} were wonderful hosts and extremely accommodating.". . . (10/30/08) - "We stayed w/Mike & Vicki last year on Christmas week (Dec 22nd) and our experience was beyond belief. A FIRST CLASS operation and people who run it! No hesitiation about staying there again, IN FACT we just scheduled another stay for next month! Thanks again Mike & Vicki.". . . (11/5/09) - "A Super overnight stop, Mike and Vickie are very accommodating. We've stayed many times, it's easy to get to and always great.". . . . . . (10/23/16) - " We were thrilled with our stay at Rockin K while on route from Ontario to Florida! Vicki and Mike were so awesome and helpful. We stayed in our trailer so we really enjoyed the wonderful "people" space with BBQ, tables and western decor. It was almost like a private outdoor living room. A very welcome relax after a couple of days on the road. The horse accommodations were fantastic with a spacious stall and a large outdoor ring where my mare could run and stretch her legs after a long day in the trailer. We have stayed at many horse motels over the last few years and Rockin K will now be one of our faves. Thanks again Vicki and Mike!". . . .(10/24/16) - "Couldn't say enough! Hospitality was wonderful! Very clean and highly recommend. We arrived around 9 p.m. and mike helped us get things going and made us feel at home! Vicki kept in touch with me on arriving! Thankyou again!!!"

Comments: (2/19/14) - "We stayed an extra day because we felt so comfortable here! They had a great hook up for the RV right next to the covered outdoor riding ring and the barn was also very close so my horse was never far from my sight. When we decided to stay an extra day, the owners gave a large acre plus pasture to let my horse relax and enjoy some leg stretching frolicking. We will absolutely call on them again when we travel through VA!". . . (4/2/14) - "Amanda and her husband were awesome! Loved the farm and you cannot find nicer, kinder, more helpful people!". . . (5/31/14) - "The cabin and horse facilities were wonderful. Amanda and David were very accommodating. Very convenient and we will definitely stay there again.". . . (10/24/14) - "I stayed here twice and the facilities were exceptional. The hosts were both friendly and helpful. My horse was happy in the lovely, clean stall that was ready for him and he enjoyed turnout in the covered arena and also in a grass paddock. There was ample room for a big rig. The apartment was immaculate and had every convenience. I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area.". . . (10/16/15) - "Wonderful facility and Amanda & Dave are terrific hosts. Loved our layover at Lazy Acres and plan to make it our destination next year. My horse was so comfortable and relaxed there. Great experience!". . . (10/19/17) - "Everything was as advertised, host was friendly and helpful. Stalls were large, safe, bedded, and water in stalls. Hay was available. They let us use their arena to turn out horses to run around. Parking was level and easy in and out for 38' trailer. Truck Stop nearby to fuel up before continuing. Would stay again.". . . (3/13/18) - "Amanda and David are amazing and are always very helpful when we are driving by. We use them every time on our way to and from Florida. We have used many layovers and this is the best by far.". . . (4/15/18) - "Lazy Acres exceeded all expectations. The setting is beautiful and relaxing. We loved the cozy cabin which was within walking distance from the barn. The stalls were safe, spacious and ready upon arrival. Our ponies were so happy here. We have already booked our next stay! Thank you again, David and Amanda!". . . (2/23/20) - "I have utilized this farm as a layover twice in the past year. David greets us on arrival every visit. The facility is always clean and tidy. Being very particular on care of my horses, I've been very pleased and sleep well the nights they are in David's care."

Comments: (8/24/16) - I stayed here in April, sorry this is so late. I can not say enough for staying at this place. What a wonderful host; arrived very late and we were greeted as soon as we drove in, all exterior lights on. Stall was huge and barn is very airy. Beautiful, comfortable studio to stay in. The quiche was an unexpected BONUS! Thank You."

Comments: (11/18/18) - "Wonderful place to stay; Ike met us in town and escorted us in. They are very knowledgeable horse people who will treat your horses as one of their own... Large stalls, very well lit. We left out trailer and headed to town 1 mile away for a great meal and night's rest.". . . (3/28/19) - "We love Ike! What a gem; his hospitality and welcoming nature made the first night or our cross country trek. Highly recommend.". . . (7/2/19) - "Ike and Phyllis could not have been more helpful. Just short of the facility we had some truck problems. Ike remained calm, though we were visibly shaken. He came out to the road, made sure we were okay and took care of the horses. His hospitality was incredible as again, he knew we were shaken. He went above and beyond in helping us get the truck checked out on a Saturday and again, helped take care of the horses, while we tended to the truck. He also touched base with us throughout the trip to ensure we made it safe. I don’t think we could have been in a better place given the situation! Thanks Ike and Phylis!". . . (7/8/19) - "We recently stayed at Ridgeway Belgians in Marion Virginia. The host, Ike, was extremely welcoming and helpful. He greeted us out in an easy to find location and guided us in even though it was 11:00 at night (3 hours later than we had planned). He had our stalls prepared and they were amazing; 12’x 16’ and well groomed. The barn and farm were very clean and safe. We stayed there in our horse trailer and in the morning took advantage of the nice clean bathroom and shower. He even had towels set out! We have stayed in many overnight facilities and this was one of the nicest we have encountered. We are giving them 5 stars!!". . . (8/1/19) - "Wish we had known about Ridgeway Belgians and Ike Essick long ago! We have traveled back and forth from northern Virginia to Georgia with four (4) horses for a few years, never stopping over to rest. On July 16, 2019 we were on a return trip to Virginia and contacted Ike Essick about his “horse motel”. Ike was very accommodating – helping us with the horses as well as suggesting where to stay and eat in the small town of Marion. The place was very clean and our horses had a large pasture to themselves. It was absolutely wonderful to break up the trip and have such good accommodations for the horses and a great place for us. Easily accessible off of I-81. We certainly recommend this location and will definitely use it again! Thank you Ike!". . . (8/17/19) - "On our trip from PA to Texas, we stopped at the Ridgeway Belgians horse motel. Even though we were running later then we anticipated, Ike still met us right off I-81 to escort us to his farm since some people's GPS takes them in a round about way. He was extremely hospitable. Would highly recommend the location to anyone travelling the I-81 corridor through Virginia.". . . (10/26/19) - "This place is the bomb! Beautiful, great amenities, the host is wonderful!! Ike, we will be back, love your place. There are also good affordable lodging options. My 3 horses arrived, they had a romp in the paddock adjoining the barn. Went into their ENORMOUS, clean, bedded stalls.. Clean buckets filled with fresh water. Ike even dropped our hay and grain in the morning so we could sleep later. Thanks again.". . . (12/1/19) - "Ike was extremely friendly and accommodating. His facilities were exactly what I was looking for and then some! I don't stall my horses, so having an outside turnout area is ideal for me. He also let my horses have access to move freely from stalls to an outside paddock so they also had shelter. I highly recommend Ike's place if you are traveling through Virginia!". . . (3/22/20) - "I boarded my horse at Ridgeway Belgians in early March 2020 on my way back from Aiken, SC to Maryland. It was an excellent experience. Ike was so helpful and responsible with my horse - looked in on him at night and fed him early in the morning. The stall was clean and very large and comfortable. The barn facilities are excellent and very secure. Highly recommend this horse motel in southern Virginia - convenient also as a halfway point between MD, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc., and the south. Excellent experience! Thank you so much. Sherry."

Comments: (5/24/20) - "Kate and her family were very accommodating and welcoming. Due to the virus outbreak, she took extra precautions to make sure we were safe (we stayed in their comfortable home). My horse was very happy, he had other horses he could see and a huge well-bedded stall attached to his own, very clean, private paddock. As an added bonus, Kate cooked dinner for us and we had fresh veggies from her garden that she sent home with us. The property is beautiful and easy to find, our trip north used a different route (for us) 29 and 15, which was quieter than the traffic on 95 or 81, but didn’t seem to take any longer. TuckerBerry Farm will definitely be our layover on our north/south journey from now on.". . . (5/25/20) - "Kate and her mom were wonderful. They were there when we arrived. We were there during Covid 2020. Kate and her mother had the stalls ready and water buckets full so we didn’t have to touch anything. She also brought her front loader to the back of my trailer so I could clean it out. Hooking up my living quarters horse trailer was easy. Thank you for the hospitality."

Comments: (3/18/16) - "Great place. Safe barn, big stalls; bright and open. I was even given turnout if needed. Stopped on our way back from Florida heading to New England. I highly recommend Hidden Meadows as a stop over.". . . (5/19/17) - "Absolutely wonderful!!! My 2 horses stayed there on our way back from FL to NY on 5/10/17. Mary Beth and her husband, Jeff, were fantastic! The facility was gorgeous and the accommodations for my horses were perfect!". . . (3/31/19)- "This was a great place to overnight on our way back from Florida. Mary Beth and Jeff were easy to reach and met us at the barn when we arrived. There was an easy turnaround for the trailer. The stalls were large, well bedded and had fresh water ready. Mary Beth did night check and let us know the next am how much our horses dank, etc. They also had 24 hour camera monitoring. We were hesitant at first because it was a little further off the highway than we hoped. However, it was an easy drive and well worth the short detour. There were lots of restaurants and hotels at the exit as well. They also offered a room at the house if we were interested. I highly recommend them.

Comments: (4/18/14) - "Very nice place. Large stalls and turn out paddock if desired. Owners very helpful. Have stayed here repeat times and have always found consistency. Beautiful area and my horses and I love the chickens! Makes us feel right at home.". . . (5/17/17) - "Sandra and her husband went above and beyond to get me settled after a long hot (97 deg) day of travel from FL-VA. Nice cement block 12' x 12' matted stalls with fans. One mile cement drive at the end, plenty of room to turn around. THX for the eggs!". . . (3/11/18) - "Sandra and Larry are the BEST horse hotel hosts around. I can not say enough about their facility and hospitality. This is our 4th year doing a layover at their facility on our way to South Carolina. If you need a place to put your horse up for the night I couldn’t suggest this place more highly. Very easily located to the highway, hotels and dining. Our 50 ft. rig can get in and out easily.". . . (5/31/18) - "A perfect stay!! Very clean, beautiful ranch with great hosts! Very convenient to highway 81- We would like to stay here again. Thank you Sandra.". . . (9/27/18) - "I had a great layover at this place. The owners were super nice and helpful. Stalls were big end clean for a 16/17 hand horse to feel comfortable to be able to roll. Enough room for my trailer. I know when ever I’m in need of a place to stay on my trips I will definitely go back. Great place and peaceful. Highly recommended."
