(Editor's Comments: Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.)
(6/7/19) - "This was a great place to stay. Dave was there to greet us and helped us get the horses settled in and helped us get settled in. We were exhausted after a long day. We really appreciated the stay and if we ever go through there will stop again. Can't say enough positives about this place.". . . (3/26/21) - "Dave was great! I had some trailer issues so I was unable to make it to my original destination and Dave let me come on a last minute notice. Lovely place to stay with great stalls for my horses.". . . (4/23/23) - "Great place ! Dave was so accommodating; great communication. Would highly recommend.". . . (6/8/22) - "Campground Stables is perfectly located on Interstate 70, but offers a quiet place for you and your horses. The facilities are impeccable and provide the needed rest and area your horses need to stretch their legs. There is a wonderful room available at the stables for the owner. Definitely stay here if you are traveling through.". . . (12/8/22) - "Terrific place for a layover during long travel. Nearby hotel is a great help, facility is impeccable and super easy to get to and navigate. Been there three times and the Corders have been great each time.". . . (5/30/23) - "This place is going in my phone as a must stay when I drive to Oklahoma or Texas. It’s about 5 minutes south of I-70 and about an hour east of St. Louis. Very easy to access, big area to turn your rig around and easy open parking. They have 30amp hook ups if you need them. We used our own water, but there was a faucet nearby our hookup. Stalls are huge (16' x 16') and some have attached run outs. The whole place was very clean and quiet. Dave (owner) greeted us at the barn and helped us get settled in. Once he saw that we were comfortable, he said good night and walked up to the house which is just a few steps from the barn. They have a picnic area for campers and a beautiful pond. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.". . . (9/21/23) - "This is a wonderful stable. Very clean facility. Huge 16' x 16' stall. The owner and his son and sweet grandchildren were all there to greet me and show me their beautiful facilities. They even allowed an empty stall between horses. I will return every time I travel through this area.". . . (4/23/24) - "It was the first time we stayed at a horse hotel and it was a fantastic experience. We gave them no notice and it was pouring rain and Cathy was waiting outside to get us set up. Very clean and perfect setup for horses and trailers and the picnic area was great because it was pouring rain. Would definitely recommend staying there. It was my favorite place.". . . (5/21/24) - "Great place for our horse and for us. We arrived very late in the rain and they both greeted us warmly. Bear enjoyed his stable for the night. We enjoyed our beds. We were exhausted after driving a very long day with lots of problems. Thank you!". . . (1/17/25) - "Very accommodating, quick to reply, and friendly. Facilities were nice and clean. Will stay here again!"

Comments: (6/18/13) - "Thank you Tom and Lea! I wish we could have stayed longer than the one night. The place is absolutely amazing! We had the choice of pasture or stalls. The pasture was well maintained and large. The barn was very new with rubber matted stalls. Goats had their own turnout and dogs had a fenced yard to play in! The house was immaculate, and the bed is more comfortable than the one I have at home! Thank you for your hospitality!". . . (7/3/16) - "Cute little farm house with all you need. Very clean. Lovely grassy paddocks or stalls for horses. Lea is a great host and we enjoyed staying at this house in the country.". . . (9/21/17) - "After days of travel, my mare deserved a roomy, safely-fenced, grass paddock. I needed a break from driving and some peace and quiet. We found it here.". . . (10/8/18) - "Nice people here & the facility is well maintained. It is way out in the sticks, so to speak, which is great after being on the road, but to get there with a big rig like ours is a bit nerve racking. Thankfully, Tom met us at the exit so we could follow him to the farm.". . . (8/29/20) - "For us, this is the Holy Grail of Horsemotels - a nice barn for the horses and onsite lodging for the humans! No need to unhitch and find a hotel. Wonderful rural setting (Tom met us at the freeway to help us find the farmhouse). Farmhouse is spotless, spacious and cozy. Horse facilities are super and barely 100 feet from the house. We had a wonderful stay and strongly recommend Sommers Gate Farms. Tom and Lea are great communicators and super hosts.". . . (3/31/22) - "Perfect place. Such nice people. Excellent horse stalls. Awesome RV. We didn't want to leave. I want to go back for a trail ride.". . . (3/12/23) - "The owners were very welcoming and friendly!! They were extremely helpful and accommodating. Facilities were very clean and peaceful! My horses were comfortable all night long. Would 100% stay here again!!"

(9/18/22) - "The absolute nicest, most genuine people. Great layover facility. 10/10. Would stay again.". . . (10/31/22) - "Steve and Carol were extremely gracious and accommodating hosts. Facilities and pastures for the horses are beautiful and very well maintained.". . . (4/11/23) - "Very well maintained, beautiful property. Hosts were very helpful and friendly. Property was easy to get to from the highway and we had ample space for our 25 foot, 3 horse gooseneck trailer. Stalls were immaculately cleaned. Our two horses were happy!". . . (5/12/23) - "Stalls clean and adequate. Easy access from Interstate 39. Easy access to motels and food. Had to back in driveway, however was easy access. Would stay again. Thank you Steven and family.". . . (6/3/24) - "Steve was an excellent host, the barn is spotless, the stalls are well made and safe. The hospitality was second to none. 10/10 would recommend. Will stay here again.". . . (9/7/24) - "We’ve stayed at Victory Reigns several times with one or two horses and love it. Very secure location and welcoming hosts. Limited turnaround for larger rigs but easy to offload and load on the quiet road and walk down a short driveway.". . . (6/26/25) - "This place is an absolute GEM! We got so lucky that we were able to book the beautiful, clean and spacious apartment at the farm. We were a party of 3 and had plenty of room to sleep and relax in the one bedroom and large kitchen and living area apartment. This place way exceeded expectations. My pony had multiple accommodation options and the owner was SUPER helpful and friendly. He stayed up and waited for us because we were stuck in Chicago traffic, showed us around and make sure that both my pony and my family were comfortable and happy. The farm itself is magical for humans and horses. The field is full of fireflies! I didn’t even know they still exist. This is the best accommodation and a hidden gem."

Comments: (1/4/25) - "Our arrival at Pat’s Cement Hollow Equine Centre was a much needed blessing. The facility is immaculate with comfortably large stalls for warmblood sport horses and enough turnaround space for our class A motorhome and 6H head-to-head trailer. After a long trip across the country and an unexpected breakdown, Pat ensured we were promptly settled, horses as calm and comfortable as they could be (including a play turnout in the large and safe indoor arena), and that we all had everything we needed for our stay, even though arriving late in the evening. Pat and one of her boarders were immensely helpful with mucking and caring for our horses during our stay. It was clearly evident during our visit that Pat deeply cares for every horse that comes on her property. We highly recommend using this facility, even if it’s a little bit out of your way. The rejuvenation felt by both horse and human is worthwhile. Thank you, Pat!

(11/15/10) - "We have stopped over in Effingham, Illinois for several years now at Ron & Becky Althoff's Pine Tree Stables. They have been most accommodating to Kurt and me and our two Quarter Horses on our overnight stays. We always arrive to clean stalls and electric hook-ups, etc.". . . (12/12/12) - "I was so happy when I pulled into the stable. I arrived at the end of day 2 of a 3 day cross country trek. My gelding was tired but he was happy to be off the trailer. The stall was safe and secure, nicely bedded with shavings and plenty of good hay. There were other horses nearby for him to see. He was very happy to run loose and roll in the very large arena. Thanks for a great service.". . . (8/14/14) - "Very friendly and accommodating. We were met with a wheelbarrow and rake to clean our trailer. May not seem like a lot but this was the only place out of 3 that did that and my trailer needed it. It's little things like that that make the difference!". . . (5/29/16) - "Ron and Becky were very welcoming, made sure our horse was comfortable. Overall positive experience!". . . (6/20/16) - "Such a nice man; helpful and friendly. Has a choice of indoor or run in area, all very neat and clean. Automatic waterer, house right by barn, not too much traffic, 5-minutes from I-70, motels, food, but quiet area. Very reasonable rates. Will use again!!". . . (3/20/17) - "Traveling from Arizona to Pennsylvania with 2 horses, our truck's DEF system went out with 40 miles to spare until the truck went into limp mode. We found Ron and Becky's number and gave them a call. Ron was a life-saver. He answered our call and was gracious enough to find us at the repair shop from which he hauled our trailer to his stables, took care of our horses and had to keep them for 3 days until our truck was repaired. The facility was very nice and clean and he was very accommodating. We don't know what we would've done without his help. Finding people like them who cared was a God-send. We can't thank them enough. Terrific people.". . . (9/4/18) - "Becky and Ron were awesome! It was a great place to let our horses overnight. The directions they provided were perfect. The yard bunnies were a special treat. Becky was sweet enough to let Joe use her van to run to town for groceries so we didn't have to unhitch the camper. Such wonderful hosts. The area is super quiet which gave us the chance for much needed rest on our trip from CT to OK. We would stay again and recommend their farm to all travelers!". . . (7/7/22) - "Ron was wonderful and you couldn’t ask for a closer and easier place to get to off of I-70 (less than 2 miles). It was over 100 degrees and what we thought would be an easy trip turned into a bake fest. We decided to break in Illinois to get them out and moving and out of the heat of the trailer. The facilities were nice and Ron even hosed them all down with a cool shower before we were ready to leave! Lots of restaurants and places to stay within 2 miles. Would highly recommend.". . . (4/16/23) - "Nice place with large round pen, stalls, trails and an RV electrical hookup. We stayed overnight while traveling with 2 horses. Good experience.". . . (11/14/23) - "We stay here on our way to and from Texas from Michigan. Very easy access and facilities are a perfect fit for us. Ron is very friendly and accommodating.". . . (12/28/23 - "When we first got there, everything was great. This night was great. The hosts was very friendly.". . . (5/6/25) - "The people here are absolutely amazing!! The best we have ever encountered!! They took us into their home when the tornado sirens went off . . . and if you can be here on a Wednesday. . . the guys around the fire are the best!!". . . (7/31/25) - "Absolutely very quaint and clean. Perfect for smaller living quarter hook up and extremely easy access to food and other necessities. Would definitely use this facility again.!"

Ben was also a super nice guy, very helpful. Answered any questions I had. Perfect stalls for animals. Very clean and well maintained. Water for animals was very close to stalls. I will definitely be returning for future stays.". . . (4/21/25) - "This place was amazing; my horses were so happy to be turned out all night to exercise. Also, the cabins we rented there were beautiful. We were so hungry and tired so they made us some yummy hamburgers. They treated us like family. We loved our stay."

Comments:  (9/23/25) - "We had such a wonderful experience at Dry Creek Performance Horses in Hampshire, IL! Lisa was absolutely great to work with - super accommodating and made sure everything was taken care of for us. Our two geldings had outdoor paddock turnout, plus two nicely matted stalls with plenty of fresh shavings for their overnight stay. The facility is clean, well cared for, and very horse-friendly. Having access to the wash rack was a huge bonus and made our stay even more convenient. We couldn't have asked for better care or a smoother experience. Highly recommend Dry Creek Performance Horses, LLC."

We will definitely be using you again when we are driving back from WY in the fall!". . . (5/18/23) - "Fantastic stay with easy access!". . . (5/7/24) - "Super great overnight facility. Having our own private barn and turnout was fantastic. The 2 run out stalls were perfect for my girls because we had a storm overnight and they had access to shelter without having to be locked up. The facility was clean and safe, Dianne was a friendly and great host. Definitely would recommend and I would put my horses there again if I am ever traveling through there again.". . . (12/12/24) - "We’ve stayed here twice so far, once in 2022 and again in 2024. These people are amazing. So helpful, so accommodating. I will never hesitate to stay here again. (5/7/17) - "Nice big stalls.". . . (9/11/17) - "Very nice facility close to town. Had the option of keeping horses in large safe lots. Recommended to friends already.". . . (1/29/18) - "I live in Wisconsin and have a second home in Georgia. I make the trip quite often and I always stay at this facility. My horses love it; the stalls are huge, clean and always prepared for our arrival. The owners are, by far, the kindest people; they always make my stay fantastic and welcoming. A blessing to have a safe layover for me and my horses. Thank you.". . . (10/19/19) - "Great place, nice host, perfect.". . . (5/28/20) - "Host was there when we arrived. He had a great personality. The stalls were large and very clean. The facility was easy to find and close to motels/food. The host helped us unlock our vehicle after locking the keys in and deal with a difficult loading horse. 100% recommend staying here.". . . (6/20/20) - "We were traveling from Miami to Montana, when we got here on June 15th. They were very welcoming and helpful. The stall was very clean and dry and very spacious. When we were ready to leave the next day I was able to put our horse in a pen outside and move him around a bit and let him stretch out his muscles a bit more before we made our next 8 hour leg of the journey. I thank you once again for the use of your facility and I would recommend it to anyone headed down south or headed up north. Thanks again for your welcoming hospitality.". . . (10/3/20) - "Going from Kansas to Georgia. Awesome overnight stay! Rick and Marla were so welcoming and helpful upon arrival and departure. There is a veterinarian literally in the next driveway if you need, which unfortunately we did for a mild case of colic from travel (don’t worry, he’s okay!). Rick and Marla were super sweet and accommodating. If we ever go back through that way, we will definitely stop!". . . (7/8/22) - "We were met immediatley upon our arrival and were given assistance unloading and situating our horses. We asked for overnight turnout and were given a nice big paddock with a run in shelter. The barn also has a ton of beautiful stalls available. Watch the GPS direction. Our GPS took us down the neighbors drive way where there was no turn around. Great stop over!". . . (9/19/22) - "Easy access and friendly. Excellent facilities.". . . (12/14/22) - "Host was lovely but busy. The once magnificent facility was run down, dusty and cobwebby but safe. Our ponies had a very restful night there. I would stay again.". . . (3/11/23) - "Fantastic place to overnight your horse. Marla and Rick were both very friendly, very accommodating, and our horse practically dragged us into the stall it was so welcoming for her. She was relaxed and rested in the morning and ready for the next day of travel. The farm is very close to hotels and restaurants. We slept well knowing our horse was in a safe secure place.". . . (5/12/23) - "Easy access from Interstate 39 and to hotels and food. Large clean stalls. Have stayed here several times on the way from WI to FL and back. Great people. Thanks Rick and Marla.". . . (7/30/24) - "Convenient location. Easy to get to and nice slips. Big rig friendly! Hosts nice and helpful. Turnouts amazing with good grazing. Our mules loved it!"

Comments: (6/22/23) - Administrator's Comments: Excerpts of the following review have been added: ". . . put them {the horses} in their portable roundpen which was clean. The barn was an old tin shed with no windows or adequate ventilation and it was too hot to keep animals inside.". . . (7/4/24) - "Katie and Jim were absolutely wonderful!!!!! They fit us in with about 7 hours notice and they were there and welcoming as soon as we arrived. They had fresh water for the horses ready to go in the round pens so the horses could stretch their legs and the stalls were absolutely perfect for the night. Everything was beyond clean and tidy. Super easy hookup for the living quarters too. They were just delightful and we would make a trip through Ottowa just to stay there again!!", , , (7/24/24) - "Easy to access from the highway, plenty of room for large trailers, very accommodating hosts!". . . (3/24/25) - "Jim and Katie were on site when we arrived and gave us a brief review of RV hookups and facilities. They had good water already in the stalls for us. We had four horses and a big living quarters trailer and had plenty of room. Thank you, Jim and Katie, for sharing stories and for a nice overnight stay!". . . (7/21/25) - "Super great place for traveling, Katie and Jim were great, they had a stall set up in case we needed it but let our horses stay in the roundpen (I asked if they could be outside) really close to all sorts of food places. Easy to get in and out of with rigs. Overall so glad we stopped there!"

Comments: (5/14/03) - "We have stayed with Kelly for two trips to Eminence, MO from Chicago, coming and going. Wonderful, caring people. Recommend highly.". . .(5/4/06) - "A small, somewhat cramped barn--but ideal location, location, location. The hosts were very helpful with directions, very welcoming on arrival. The transit stalls were very nice--but getting to them means a careful walk through narrow barn aisles. We'd happily stay here again." .. Had we known they were "green" for 1:30 am arrival, we would have put them in smaller stalls up front. Goliath made it through with no problems--so can you!". . . . .(7/21/06) - "Great host, great place to stay on your way west., would definitely. stay again.". . .(7/31/06) - "Nice facility, people were very nice and took great care of my new horse that was transported in from PA. The transport service American Equine highly recommends this stable for layover or drop offs due to easy access off of the highway. Thanks again.". . . (3/28/09) - "We came through twice very late in the evening, and Kelly was happy to greet us and open the gate! Somehow we got off track time wise, and Kelly was nothing but flexible. Very convenient to hotels (dog friendly), interstate, and fast food.". . . (6/10/17) - "Super nice folks to deal with. We were late arrivals, the owners were very accommodating. I would use their facilities again in a second.". . . (8/4/20) - "Kelly was fabulous! She made room for my three ponies on short notice and made me feel at home. Super friendly! I would definitely stay there again and I recommend her to anyone needing a place in that area!". . . (4/6/21) - "Kelly's place isn't the most fancy out there but she has down home hospitality and was so friendly. I asked for a paddock and it was clean, isolated from other horses, and she was ultra accommodating of our desire to be extra careful. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Kelly.". . . (7/3/21) - "I called last minute and they were able to accommodate us. I would recommend this stable to anyone traveling and needing a place to stay overnight with your horses. Great people! Great facility! Great rates!". . . (12/9/21) - "Great host. Very understanding. Friendly.". . . (6/23/25) - "We had a reservation at another horse motel nearby and weren't comfortable leaving our horse there overnight. We drove over to Gateway Stables hoping they could fit us in with no notice. Kelly was beyond wonderful. She took us in no problem and got a stall and water setup immediately. The place is fun with other farm animals. The facility was well secured and my horse was very happy/comfortable. Kelly is a true horse person and will take great care of your horse. Thank you Kelly!!!"

Comments: (9/11/21) - "Roz is ALWAYS very accommodating and her hospitality is second to none. Great stalls with plenty of bedding and has food and water ready when I call ahead. Great location close to Chicago and along major interstates. AA++++.". . . (9/11/21) - "Roz and her staff are amazing people who truly care about animals. I would absolutely do business with The Running Wilde Ranch again!". . . (12/21/21) - "We stopped here with my horse and two dogs on our way home and were very relieved to have a little haven available for all of us. We stayed in the house and didn’t drive anywhere to eat, so I don’t have a comment about that. Roz was super helpful and accommodating, even advising us to stick around the day of our departure due to high winds, which we were especially thankful for. She let me put my horse in a safe paddock to stretch out, roll and run around and the stall was nice and big and safe. The dogs even had a fenced yard to run around in. Also, the bathroom in the house was nice and big and the shower was great! We’ll stay here again when traveling if the opportunity arises.". . . (4/18/22) - "Rosalyn has a very nice place and she runs a tight ship. My daughter and I had a very pleasant overnight with her. She even has a room with a bathroom to rent. We had little dogs that stayed with us and she has a small fenced yard they ran for a bit in! Very nice!". . . (8/13/22) - "Stayed in June 2022 for a night and then another night a week later upon our return home. Roz was a great hostess, facilities were top notch. Definitely worth the stay.". . . (6/4/24) - "I couldn't have asked for a better place to layover our Gypsy horses. Roz is professional, personable and knowledgeable. Not only was her farm 5 star but she helped us figure out the ins and outs of picking up our horse from quarantine. She hauled our filly to her farm for a very reasonable rate. If you want a worry-free place to stop with your horse, stay with Running Wilde.". . . (9/8/24) - "Beautiful facility in the picturesque countryside of Illinois. Very accommodating, friendly & helpful host. Nice paddocks & stalls, very friendly kitties & dogs greet you too! We loved it & will go back. Highly recommend."

Comments: (2/11/25) - "I have used the Freckled Pony Farm several times for boarding my horses. Whether I am out of town for an extended period of time for work or more recently, replacing fence at my property, I can trust Erin and Bubba to take top notch care of my horses. Erin is always great at getting back to me quickly and she is always so accommodating. The facilities are top notch. I highly recommend the Freckled Pony Farm.". . . (7/27/25) - "Freckled Pony Farm was neat and very clean and well represented. The host was kind and quick with her responses. Nice, secure paddocks with 3 sided run in shed and spacious stalls. While there was not 24 hour monitoring the owner was very clear about that due to the dates we needed. We will be staying again on our return trip.". . . (7/30/25) - "I boarded my horses here overnight twice now. Erin and Justin were so nice and so quick at texting back. The first night we came, we showed up late at night and Erin was so nice about it. The horses loved her huge pasture. They had so much room to stretch their legs after a long haul. They have a living area with a bathroom attached with a clean toilet/shower and AC. I cannot stress how nice this family is and I can’t recommend them enough!". . . (7/30/25) - "Erin and Justin were the best!!! We arrived so late at night and Erin was the nicest person, she just said to call her to wake her up and that she will come to meet us and settle the horses in for the night. We chose to have our horses in the paddock and we had the choice with small and big pasture for them. Very secure, automatic waterer, the facilities are so nice. A/C inside and shower/bathroom. We came again on our way back and once again they were both so nice with us as it was a very last minute decision. They made sure we had everything we needed for us and the horses. Thank you again, we will definitely stop there again if we need to!!". . . (9/28/25) - "This place is great! Hosts are on-site and very nice and accommodating. Nice pasture with run in for our horse and a cute camper for us to stay in. Facilities were clean with towels and shampoo/conditioner provided. Would definitely stay here again!"
