| Comments: (Due to the many comments we've received on this facility, all positive, for space purposes we've had to remove some of the earlier comments) (2/16/05) - "Excellent facilities. John & Janie were extremely friendly, down to the point of providing cookies upon our departure. We will stay there again, if given the opportunity.". . .(3/30/05) - "We needed to haul some of our Miniature Hereford cattle to a show in Austin, TX . . . top-quality home-away-from-home. Picture perfect quiet country hill-top setting, Very very well planned and maintained barns and pipe runs of various sizes to accommodate anyone's needs . . . nice full-hookups for those folks with LQ in their trailers. . . . Super security (locked gates, etc), and yes, Janie sure does bake up those good cookies!. . . The whole package deal there is about the best you can find, if you don't need all the extra fancy high-tech stuff. Just super nice Top Quality Basics.". . .(4/6/05) - "Great experience, and I would highly recommend John and Janie's place. It was very clean, safe, and I met some great people...Thanks, and I'll be back!". . .(4/9/05) - "The horse pens were safe & roomy, the water was fresh, the hosts were very congenial & sent home-made cookies with us, and I would recommend a stay there to anyone.". . .(8/22/06) - "John and Janie are excellent hosts, going out of their way to accommodate guests. The location is atop a knoll where the west Texas breeze mitigates even the most demanding summer sun. It doesn't matter if you're travelling east/west or north/south, if your lay-over demands a night anywhere near Abilene...the seasoned horseowner will select Blue Horse Stables. The accessibility afforded by circling the house, unloading stock and backing rigs directly into the camper hook-ups is excellent, even for large rigs and accommodates Blue Horse's efforts to keep the grounds immaculate. The drive from the road up the hill to the house is discriminately maintained and easily accessible from both interstate and US highways.". . .(11/15/06) - "I had to laugh at proximty of "human" food.... they baked cookies for Walt while they were waiting for him to get there. Doesn't get better than that and it was indicative of their entire attitude and dedication to your comfort. He got there fairly late, 11ish, and they were right out there ready to help him offload and load up again in the morning. Could not ask for more in a horse hotel. Great find and we will be back.". . .(12/12/06) - "Could not have been a better experience for me and Moonpye. The cookies were delicious. Thanks.". . .(1/24/07) - "John and Janie were awesome hosts. We would definitely recommend staying here for a goodnights rest. Janie also makes the BEST sugar cookies we've ever had. Thanks for the great nights sleep!". . .(2/8/07) - "John and Janie are wonderful! The ranch is easy to find, and no worries about our horses. We highly recommend them, and would not hesitate to leave horses there for any amount of time. Very helpful. Texas hospitality!!". . .(5/11/07) - "If you ever break down, make sure you break down in Abilene, TX. Our truck broke down and we called John and Jannie last minute. We had our truck and trailer towed to the Blue Horse Stables. They greeted us with cookies and a smile. We stayed six days while the truck got fixed. They had a 100 acres for us to ride, pond for fishing and they welcomed our dogs. A must stay for people passing through TX.". . .(9/26/07) - "I read all the past comments and agree with them wholeheartedly. We stayed 2 times - heading east in July 07 and back west in Sept. John & Janie are real downhome friendly people - like family. They treated "Dazi" (and us) so well we'll be back! Cookies are also the best! Thanks, John & Janie!". . .(12/3/07) - "These guys were great - very friendly and available! They gave us advice on local roads and it's true, those cookies are amazing!". . . (2/20/09) - "They were the nicest people on the planet. We arrived late and they were there to help us! Everything was handled safely, quickly and with ease. Best hotel I have stayed at, HANDS DOWN! They even made fresh cookies in the morning and gave us some. Definitely my number one recommendation!". . . (4/13/09) - "Great stay again...highly recommended! Thanks, John and Janie! I'll be back next time I'm in Abilene." . . . (2/6/11) - "John Tucher was a wonderful host, friendly, helpful and enjoyable to visit with. The accommodations were great! Janie's homemade cookies were awesome! We could not wait for those and John's smiling face when we came back through the next week.". . . (4/23/11) - "Wonderful hosts, even had home-made cookies for us! I would go there any time, with any horse for the friendliness and care we were shown!". . . (12/8/11) - "The Tucher's couldn't be any nicer or any more accommodating when we rolled in after dark for an overnight stay in November 2011. My travel schedule was not set in stone, but they were willing to accommodate whatever schedule I had. They provided me with a large pen to turn-out my horse after a full day of traveling and then a large stall, already set up with water, to spend the night in. They suggested hotel and restaurant accommodations for us, and we felt 100% comfortable that the horse was safe and in good hands at Blue Horse Stables. The next morning, the Tuchers really "tripped our trigger" by sending us off with a plate full of homemade cookies covered in blue frosting." |

| Comments: (8/18/09) - "Just wanted to drop a note of THANKS to, Amarillo Horse Boarding, Golden Horse Training Center, Leon Robertson, TX. We stayed at Golden Horse Training Center on our way out from Florida to New Mexico for the National High School Rodeo Finals. The place was not hard to find, even with all the road construction, and Mr. Leon and his wife were very nice people. The facility is great; very big with a covered arena and closed in stalls. VERY! VERY! NEATLY KEPT! We had a little problem with our AC in the truck and Mr Leon took a look at it for us. Talking with him we found out that he is a Jack of all Trades and even a Master at some. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR LEON!! See you next time we come thru your way.". . . (10/25/09) - "Thursday October 22, 2009. Arrived late and were met by Leon Robertson. The stalls were clean, Leon was fabulously helpful, and our stay was the high-point of the day. We have been in the horse business for 40 years and wholeheartedly recommend Golden Horse Training Center for your layover.". . . (11/18/09) - "Leon was very helpful and gave us several options as to where we wanted to put our mare. We settled on an outside stall with a covered area where she had plenty of room to move. Showers were great and it was a quiet place to spend the night." | |||||||

| Comments: (4/1/04) - "I can always count on the best friendly customer service ever with Penny. They always remember who I am year to year. The grounds are well cared for as are the accommodations. I highly recommend Penny and her motel.". . .(12/11/04) - "We always try to make this stop going and coming. The stalls and barn are among the best of any facility. You can even plug in to their pole for hook-ups and stay on-site. Safe, easy access, great barn and stalls.". . .(3/30/05) - "We were hauling Miniature Herefords to a show in Austin, TX . . . Our animals really enjoyed the very clean and well-maintained stalls and pipe runs, . . . we stayed overnight in their on-property western-themed "Bunkhouse"...absolutely delightfully comfy, very clean and spacious accommodations! (could sleep up to 4 folks). The "Bunkhouse" was sure a nice change from the usual motel rooms one finds, and your four-legged friends will all enjoy their home-away-from-home too! Both Vic and Penny are quite delightful folks.". . .(4/6/05) - "Nice clean facilities! Thanks!". . .(7/5/05) - "After having a blowout with three horses on the trailer, I had to turn back to Amarillo to get a spare. Since it was late in the evening, I needed some place to keep my horses. This was the happiest experience of my day. My hosts were extremely friendly and helpful! Thanks a bunch!". . .(7/31/05) - "Well equipped facilities. The only drawback would be a small parking area once it begins to fill up.". . Editor's Note: The owners have enlarged their trailer parking space since these travelers stayed and more recent travelers say there is now ample room for parking and turnaround.. . . .(7/31/05) - "Easy to find. Stalls were knee deep in shavings and very clean. Bunk house was very nice. Would stay again.". . .(9/26/05) - "Very close freeway access. Bunk house was small but clean and adequate. Was great to stay right with the horses. Penny made special arrangements for our after hours arrival. Lights on, everything easy. Excellent trailer space.". . .(1/15/06) - "Have overnighted here many times. Great place, great people. Makes the trip a pleasure. I highly recommend Happy Tracks.". . .(11/9/06) - "Convienent on-off highway, great folks, not secured nor gated, but positive feedback overall.". . .(1/2/07) - "Very nice people, very nice stalls. Very convenient location. They were very nice to take us in on only a few hrs notice. Tara.". . .(2/10/07) - "Our family has been staying here for over 25 years and it is one of the best places to feel safe about our horses.". . .(3/25/08) - "Penny & Vic were very helpful. It was uncomplicated. My mule was happy with the stall/run.". . .(5/16/08) - "Penny is an absolutely wonderful person - she was very welcoming. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we could not stay, as I didn't realize there would be no other horses staying there while my horse was there... I just got over a colic scare after my horse was very stressed over being kept at 2 different facities that did not have any other horses in AZ during my 11-day trip, & I didn't want to take any chances by stressing her with a similar circumstances again. But I was very impressed with the barn facities - there was a large choice of stall facilities that were very well bedded & clean, & the bunkhouse appeared to be very cute. If there was another horse staying there that evening, or I was traveling with 2 or more horses, I would have stayed. Penny was very understanding about my situation & cancelled my reservations. I have marked "neutral" on 3 comments only due to the fact that I couldn't stay to experience those factors.". . . (7/14/09) - "Great place to stay - We stay coming and going to AZ for the winter. Always there when we get there with clean stalls and a place for us to plug in for the night. Stalls with pipe fence runs for the horses. Will stay again and again.". . . (10/30/09) - "My daughter and I travel alone with our horses from California to all parts of the States. We always feel safe for ourselves and our horses. Our family and friends have been staying here for over 30 years.". . . (11/1/11) - "Stalls were large and clean. I had two 6 month old fillys so I loved the stalls with a run so they could go in or out. RV hook up was well priced and easy to access. Over all it was a wonderful stay and would stop again." | |||||||

| Comments: (5/14/11) - "Linda was a wonderful host; we were able to make our reservation the day of our stay on our drive into Amarillo & she was genuinely empathetic in regards to our LONG haul cross country with a mare who HATES to trailer. Amira was in a huge outdoor paddock with loafing shed for $10/night~Amazing deal! And she was able to see other horses which made her happy. Though we didn't use her box stalls the barn was huge, stalls spacious and all of the grounds were clean. She also has a HUGE indoor arena on the grounds and regularly holds events, though we were the only visitors on this night. We didn't stay overnight on the grounds and it was a 9 mile drive back into town for hotel and food, but we felt VERY safe leaving our mare and in comparison to the other local horse motels we are very glad we chose Linda's place. Very safe and secure place off the beaten path. Would definitely recommend and would stay again! THANKS LINDA FOR ACCOMMODATING US & MAKING IT SO WONDERFULLY EASY!" | |||||||

| Comments: (Editor's Comments: Due to the many positive comments we've received on this facility, we've included only the most recent for space consideration). (2/22/07) - "Clean, friendly, GREAT catered dinner the evening I arrived. Good human facilities and the AQHA Hall of Fame....what more could one ask for???". . .(4/29/03) - "Great Facility! Paulette and Don go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. They have their rooms finished if you prefer to not camp in your trailer and they are fabulous! If you can't stay, at least stop in and take a look! We stayed on our way to Charmayne James Clinic and on our way back, and both times everything was ready for us. Thanks Paulette and Don!". . .(7/17/07) - "Super clean, super friendly, super safe!". . .(8/7/07) - "We were very impressed with the facility. Very clean, well appointed. Stalls were large and CLEAN!! The rooms for humans were better than any motel in the area.". . .(9/28/07) - "I Love coming here. Paulette and her family are wonderful. We can visit for hours and just relax after a long drive. Three years in a row to the Pinto World and next year will be 4. Thanks Paulette.". . .(1/3/08) - "Fantastic place to stay. Although they are only 4 hours from Albuquerque, I was caught in the storm that hit us on 21 Dec. and didn't arrive in Amarillo until 1am (left at 4pm). Paulette and her husband stayed up for us and ensured we were well taken care of. They also helped us load up and leave the next day in 50 MPH winds. Thank you very much.". . .(7/16/08) - "This was wonderful. I called without making prior arrangements and was treated as if I'd made a reservation. The place was so clean and the stalls were heavily bedded. My horse loved it. Friendly hosts, very clean, I highly recommend!". . . (8/28/09) - "You just can't go wrong staying at the Bed and Bale.". . . (9/4/09) - "My husband and I stopped here on the way to the NRCHA World Show and were VERY impressed. This was our first outing with our living quarters and they had no problems helping us to get set up, and the horse facilities were IMMACULATE!!! I would HIGHLY recommend the Lone Start Bed & Bale Horse Hotel!". . . (10/28/09) - "Barn was wonderful, wish mine was that nice! Thick shavings and bucket of water waiting on us when we arrived LATE at night. On site "hotel" was better than most any regular hotel you can find, but much, much cheaper, and right next to the barn. Beautiful location. Beds were so comfy we overslept.. . . . Owners were soooo helpful! Keep them in mind if out that way. Full fence around area, including gate, insures safety. Round pens, arena, too! Know that World Shows are right around the corner.". . . (6/28/10) - "Lone Star Bed & Bale is the BEST !! I felt like I had known Paulette and Don forever. We had a relaxing evening and a great meal. It's well lit and secure. I felt safe and knew my horses were safe. The rooms are great, well decorated and clean. The kitchen is awesome, a great place to visit with the other guests. Thanks Don and Paulette for everthing. And thanks to Jatawna (not sure I spelled that right) for a great burger. ~ Debra Sisk, Roanoke, Texas.". . . (10/2/10) - "Very, very clean! Nice folks! Would not hesitate to stay again. Completely satisfied!". . . (10/5/10) - "Great place to stay for horse and human!". . . (1/2/11) - "We were on our Honeymoon heading to New Mexico trail riding. Paulette and Don have an absolutely charming place. We loved it! We even made it our stop coming back home. They made our stay special. Their facility is very clean, well kept, and the bunkhouse made us feel like we were stepping into a "Southern Living Magazine." It is beautifully decorated. We will most definitely make it a regular stop and stay. With or without horses. Thank you so much.", , , (2/7/11) - "Stayed 01/28/11 - Highly recommend this facility!! Insulated barn kept our AZ horses warm in the frigid air they were not accustomed to, and our room was wonderful. Hosts could not have been more helpful and friendly. We will stay there anytime we head that direction with our horses!". . . (7/8/11) - "What an outstanding facility, exceeding all expectations. The room was a nice size, clean and very comfortable. The shared kitchen, covered patio, gates/security, large stalls with deep bedding, clean, cool barn, round pens offered, etc. Everything was perfect! Our hosts were accommodating, offering coffee at midnight, and breakfast snacks to take on the road. I wish I had a few days to hang out, as it would have been great fun. The price was extremely reasonable for what is offered. I will definitely stay again! Thank you!". . . (9/17/11) - "We stayed here both directions from Arabian Youth Nationals and loved our stays! Gracious hosts, great accommodations...we wish they were located closer to St Louis so we could come more often. We didn't have a rig with living quarters so we stayed in the hotel, and when we arrived at the host hotel (Sheraton) for our event, our girls said they wished they were back at Lone Star! Thanks for making our overnight stop so great!" |

| Comments: (8/13/04) - "I was really impressed by everything there. I had stayed at the motel before, but this was the first with my mules. I would recommend it to anyone. First Rate!!!!". . .(10/1/04) - "I highly recommend The Big Texen Horse Motel to stay. Besides the excellant horse facilities, the motel is right there so you can check your horses anytime by just a walk, excellent truck and trailer parking on site, a great restaurant and morning buffet and last of all, gas stations very close by and convenient.". . .(1/14/05) - "More hotels / motels need to use this idea. We traveled from WA to TX and this was only the second place like this we found on the trip. It is so nice to have your horses close by and the best part is that it is all in one bill. The stalls were great, secure and the staff was very helpful. Highly recommended!. . .(2/4/05) - "After a long travel day, it was great to make one stop for both horse and family. Everything we needed was right there, water for the horse, food for the family.". . .(9/13/05) - "When we got to the Big Texan we were tired from traveling, not in too good of a mood, but these people changed that around in a hurry. We stayed in the motel and it was great getting to stay next to the horses and going to eat the best steak I ever ate. Mike took care of our horses like they were his own. The rest of the employes that work there are just wonderful. It was the best part of our trip. We will stay at the Big Texan every time we come thru Amarillo. We also love the way we slept in peace knowing that Mike was out there with our horses. Our stall had its own lock. Whatever or however you are doing to train your people do not ever change a thing. 'GREAT JOB,THANK YOU'". . .(11/17/05) - "The Big Texan let us put our horses it their runs while we ate for free. FOOD WAS GREAT!!! We went to Oklahoma to the World Show and stopped again on our way back.We stayed overnight and are verry happy with all services provided. "THANK YOU ALL AT THE BIG TEXAN" We will see you all next trip.". . .(1/24/06) - "Great place!! Super fantasic!! We will be back!!". . .(6/26/06) - "Very nice facility with access to great food.". . .(12/9/06) - "I love it. This is my second time there and they treat us right. Very easy to get to and right on the highway. . . .". .. (4/24/08) - "Good food at the Big Texan Steak Cafe. Safe, secure stalls for our horses. Turnout pens available.". . .(5/16/08) - "Horse facilities were very good - stalls were airy and clean; paddock & round pen were very clean & well tended to, as well. But I wasn't very comfortable with the security of barn facilities; the barn is located immediately next to a large overnight tractor trailer parking lot that has easy access to & from the freeway. The barn is surrounded by a high chain link fence, but is secured only by a light weight chain with a foot-locker lock and a flimsy gate. When I asked whether or not there was some type of 24 hour security I was told there was none. In regard to human facilities, room was clean & bed was comfortable, but bathroom facilities were very outdated & did not work well - the showerhead did not work well, with more water leaving the bathtub spikot then the showerhead; the tub did not drain well; & the toilet handle needed signifigant jiggling to stop the toilet from running. When the front desk clerk was informed of the problems with the room the next morning, she did not seem concerned, & we were not offered any discounts due to our inconvenience. Regarding the restaurant, the steak dinners are fabulous (awesome cuts & grilling), but stay away from the breakfast buffet (awful). Overall it was a convenient stop for a horse person. I would use this facility again simply because of it's access to I-40, & that if offers me the ability to stay on the facility with my horse @ all times & check on her frequently, which is very important to me when traveling (ask for the Alamo building, with a room toward the end facing the stable so you can monitor the stable entrance from your room window) - but they definitely need to update facilities & provide better security for the horses (ie: monitoring cameras, better locks/gates, or night attendant).".. . .(6/13/08) - "Kept horses in the pens, which were small, but adequate. Stalls looked nice, but had hay and stuff left in them. Round pen was not available to use because a horse was left in there. Had to park with the truckers in our LQ trailer, which was noisy, and no hookups. The restaurant was great tho- best steak I've ever had!! All in all an OK overnite-- but not a destination." | |||||||

| Comments: (9/10/10) - "We almost passed this one by because there were no prior reviews, and that would be a HUGE mistake. That just means noone was clever enough to get on over here. Walt got REALLY lucky and got there for the 'pickin' contest they have every month. What a treat! Restful, clean facility is good. TO have fun is a bonus you don't often get when you pretty much live on the road haulin' horses. If you are anywhere around there, get on in. They aim to exceed your expectations. Mission accomplished!". . . (1211/10) - "Excellent place to bed the High end passengers on the trip to FL. All High goal Polo horses. We spent two nights here with 24 horses each time and were more than satisfied both times and have told a few others who were very happy to get their names. At Half Moon Ranch you will feel at home; better yet the horses are so happy.". . . (1/15/11) - "This is a very nice facility. They were very helpfull. They even had a wash rack for us to clean up the boys. They even welcomed our dogs with open arms. I would recommend this places to anyone looking for a nice peaceful place to stay.". . . (2/5/12) - "On our way from California to Houston, traveling with two horses, Half Moon Ranch saved our sanity, providing a great space for horses and ourselves to recharge. Charming "cowboy bunkhouse," and warm and friendly hospitality. Wish we could have stayed longer!" | |||||||

| Comments: (3/15/05) - "We had a wonderful (too short) stay at the Ranch Bunkhouse. It was a tremendously nice facility with a well-stocked apartment, full kitchen, plenty of books, videos, even board games!! We want to stay longer next time.". . .(10/5/05) - "Larry & Michelle's Ranch Bunkhouse is a 5-Star facility! We didn't want to tell anyone about it because we want it all for ourselves! Once people hear about this awesome B&B, L & M will be booked 52 weekends of the year. The rides are spectacular, the accommodations are the best for horses & people alike! We LOVE The Ranch Bunkhouse!". . . (10/25/05) - "Ranch Bunkhouse was so welcoming that it immediately felt like home. Great facilities for the horses and beautiful land to ride. Thanks so much for providing such a wonderful place to stay.". . .(5/13/07) - "Nice facility and friendly, helpful host. The guesthouse was very nice and fully stocked. If we hadn't been in a hurry to get to the San Antonio Livestock Show we would have been happy to stay longer." | |||||||

| Comments: (10/25/02) - "HHH is a real find! The host & hostess are most accommodating and super friendly, going way out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The easy access to McKinney Roughs equestrian park makes HHH a treasured stop on our travels. We'll be coming back many times!". . .(10/28/02) - "Hollis and Beaux are the perfect hosts at Happy Horse Hotel! They work hard to make your stay perfect. The proximity to the fabulous McKinney Roughs horse park is also a plus. But first, Happy Horse Hotel...the horse pens are nice and secure with water faucets adjacent and sand bedding (good for making horses "happy" after a good ride at the horse park!) There are good hookups for those with living quarters. Trees for shade, and Hollis's horses in a pasture nearby made my horse happy. The bungalow makes camping luxurious - I have stayed there during a hot spell as well as a cool spell, and was cool/cozy both times. The outdoor shower bower(totally private and lovely) was welcome and made me feel like a wood elf. The "privy" was the most elegant privy I have ever seen, complete with candles, propane heat, reading materials, and a wooden toilet seat! Inside the bungalow is a very comfortable king size bed, ac/heat, refrigerator, art, and a wonderful reading chair and light that I used (with a glass of wine) after my long ride, shower, and dinner. The McKinney Roughs horse park has some of the most beautiful trails I have yet to see in Texas - riding along the Colorado River through the shade trees and then down into the river to cool off provided some of the most peaceful riding I have ever done. This park offers hills, wooded trails, and Hill Country views, and is quickly getting popular with Central Texas riders. This makes the Happy Horse Hotel a perfect place to stay since you can get discount park coupons from Hollis, and then use the one mile ride down the nice road a good warm up/cool down for a super day on the trail (or trailer up to the park!) Thank you Hollis and Beaux for having the vision and motivation to create a true "happy horse hotel!" (11/3/02) - "This was a great experience...very country..The owners were extremely friendly..We were going to ride but weather did not permit. Next time we will and there will be a next time! We were treated just like we were "next door neighbors.". . .(12/10/04) - "Great little country place close to Austin with excellent trail boss, fenced riding area, and guest cottage and set up with groups in mind. Friendly, knowledgeable and fun place.". . .(4/24/08) - "Fun place to visit. Nearby McKinney Roughs Park for horse riding (only dry days) is great!" |

| Comments: (6/2/05) - "Due to an unexpected blow out on our horse trailer we found it necessary to find a place to put our horses up in the Dallas, TX area. Christina went out of her way to make space available for our two horses, found a tire store and recommend lodging all within a few miles of her barn. She went out of her way to make an unexpected delay in our travels a minor inconvenience." | |||||||

If we are traveling thru El Paso again we will definitely know where to keep our horses.". . . (10/3/09) - "Super great folks and a nice place. This is located at their home and I felt very comfortable leaving my horse there knowing they were on site just seconds away. I would stay there again and plan on it the next time I go that way.". . . (12/26/11) - "Mike and Sue are the best hosts; they are very friendly, accommodateing and helpful. | Comments: (10/29/09) - "Allen at Tres Milagros was very kind and accommodating. We had a special situation where we needed a last minute vet, after hours, which he helped us set up and get in contact with; faxing papers; one horse needed to be in a separate stall, and the other enjoyed a 20' x 40' turnout with a cover. Very clean facility and Allen was very professional. Their prices were reasonable. We will be happy to use Tres Milagros in the future and highly recommend them.". . . (4/24/10) - "Allen was a great host and facilities were clean and comfortable. Easy to get in and out and we would stop again. Thank you again.". . . (6/14/10) - "Very nice and safe facilities. We would definitely use this facility again if going through El Paso. They were very accommodating and friendly and our horses were safe and cared for. Thank you Tres Milagros.". . . (11/8/10) - "On a trip from Texas to Arizona my daughter, grandson, and I weren't hauling horses this time but we had both a personal issue and an intermittent fuel pump and we called Tres Milagos for help from "just down the road." The hosts were fantastic; very accommodating and helpful. Horse motel owners may not realize what a shelter from the storm they sometimes are and the folks ar Tres Milagros were our saviours that day. They directed me to a nearby Auto Zone that had a fuel pump and I was allowed to unceremoniously drop my fuel tank and replace my fuel pump in their parking lot. To be able to enter a home like setting with assistance from the owners is so comforting compared to, perhaps, having to deal with mechanical problems, or otherwise, on the side of the road on a cold, stormy night. Horse motels and their owners are "the bomb!" Thanks for all your help, Tres Milagros; we appreciate all you did for us. The Becks.". . . (12/20/10) - "Close to Interstate and hotels...people were very nice and accommodating on short notice; 20' x 40' pens were great for the horses!". . . (1/15/11) - "Very nice, top-notch farm. They were out front as soon as we got there and ready to get us settled in. Very accommodating. I will be pleased to use this facility again." | |||||||

| Comments: (10/3/02) - "We had car trouble on the way and arrived late. The owners were very nice about our late arrival. This was a nice place to stay. We stayed in our trailer, but they have a very cute guest house. It would be a great place to stay if someone didn't want to stay at the John Justin arena. I would recommend staying here.". . .(1/9/03) - "Great place and a friendly host. It was neat to have a whole house to ourselves. It sure beat staying in a hotel room.". . .(4/12/04) - "Very nice, clean, safe facilities. We greatly appreciated clean and comfortable loding on site for us as well. We highly reccomend it and would stay there again!". . .(11/7/06) - "Was nice to stay at the same place as our horse. Hosts were extremely helpful w/directions, suggestions for dinner, etc. Breakfast was such a treat and excellent!! If traveling in Texas and you need a place to board, this is the place to stay.". . .(3/3/03) - "Great place to stay. Our horses didn't want to leave. We didn't want to go either. Everything was more than expected and the owners were just fabulous hosts. We will definitely stay here again only longer next time.". . .(6/14/06) - "We loved it and our horses did too! Close enough to town but just out far enough from the city! They also have nice boarders that are willing to help anytime! Great staff - they do a superb job watching and keeping up with the horses and chores! We will be back!". . .(3/30/07) - "Just like home. What else could you want.". . . (12/12/10) - "The owners and workers were extremely helpful. We stayed there 2 times and both times our host personally greeted us and made sure that we were well taken care of. We were hauling several animals and the accommodations were great for us and all of our horses. Highly recommend!". . . (12/18/10) - "Outstanding, friendly, clean, wonderful people. Gary and Sheri Luna are very dedicated horse people, knowledgeable, caring and provide great feed and hay. I am so happy I found them on the HorseMotel site. I highly recommend them. I traveled from Wisconsin to Texas and they are the first people whom I met, what a wonderful representation of Texas hospitality." | |||||||

| Comments: (7/7/06) - "Easy off I-10. We were located close to food and lodging but stayed in our trailer at their hook-ups. We were able to turn our horses out in their coverd arena before putting them in their stall. Nice place; will return." . . .(7/7/06) - "Thanks for a great stay. I was able to wash my horse and exercise him before my show in Houston. Easy to get to. Right off I-10.". . .(11/4/07) - "Nice facility, clean stalls and plenty of room for the horses. Stalls are covered with one side of the building open; but the weather is nice enough that this made for perfect conditions. Only one that checked our coggins out of four stops, that is in my opinion great; don't have to worry about sick animal staying there. Host was quite friendly and nice to talk to. I would definitely stay here again!". . . (2/13/09) - "The owner might want to take a drive from the interstate to the facility looking through the eyes of a newcomer. It might account for 'no shows'. Losing the junk cars might be a good idea as well. The owner was great, helpful and attentive, but her facility is tired and needs some serious work. And it would be helpful if the roosters had their internal body clocks reprogrammed off eastern daylight savings time. We could not tell you if there were food or lodging nearby, we got there late due to accident traffic and left early since sleep was not an option once the roosters started. The facility is very easy to get to and impossible to lose, so getting there in the dark is no problem.". . . (8/17/09) - "We had truck problems and had to stay in the area 2 nights. The place was nice. We were able to have our truck repaired and the owners were great to help us with extra feed and shavings for the trip." | |||||||

| Comments: (7/24/08) - "Easy access off I-20 exit 557...nice barn and clean stalls.Beautiful CLEAN and SPOTLESS bunkhouse.Outside shower available. Scott and his wife are "GOOD PEOPLE"... what more can you ask for? Give them a call and enjoy your stay!". . . (7/29/08) - "Scott and his family did an excellent job accommodating us and our horses on a late request. Their facilities were clean and well kept and the bunk house is one of the nicest ones I've seen on the road. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a place east of Dallas/Fort Worth and close to I-20 to call Scott. Thanks for the stay!". . . (11/1/09) - "This is an excellent facility for horse and humans. It was, by far, the best "barn and bed" I stayed in on my haul from TX to VA. If I had to, I would go extra miles to stay here. The "bunkhouse" was clean and neat, airconditioned and heated. The bed was most comfortable. My mare was happy in her "bed" too. The owners are GOOD PEOPLE. Thank you Scott and Helen.". . . (1/12/10) - "Scott saved us from truck trouble on the coldest day in 14 yrs. Even helped us find an outstanding mechanic who fixed the botched repair that the first place did earlier that day. The bunk house was outstanding; clean, comfortable and warm. Stall and barn were the same. The first ones to call if you need overnight stabling. Wonderful people. Super dogs. Especially Smurf! Made us feel like friends. Thanks Again.". . . (8/23/11) - "Despite having to roll in at sunset we were welcomed by a whole crew of helping hands. Before I could turn around my trailer had the manure removed, water was in the stall, and people were asking "what can I do to help". The RV hook up worked great, with an outdoor light provided to help get everything set in the dark. The whole family was fantastic. They even provided playmates for my two daughters, they are still pen pals today! We had a wonderful stay and hope to stop by and say hi again someday!". . . (11/22/11) - "Wonderful hospitality, very clean and great location! We were greeted with a smile at 2:30 A.M. We would most definitely stay again. Thanks Scott! Juan & Alicia". . . (11/29/11) - "Mr. Scott was extemely helpful with a trailer hook-up problem. Excellent hosts.". . . (1/5/12) - "We were so pleasantly surprised. This is the first time we have stayed somewhere and bunked our horses. The stables were so nice and clean and our cabin was so good! It was so warm and inviting. We were very happy and had a good family weekend riding the local trail and staying here.". . . (1/12/12) - "We were more than satisfied with Casa Cassel. So much so that we have been there twice now! The host was very welcoming and helpful. The stalls were clean and ready for me upon arrival. I loved the bunk house! It was very clean and had everything that I could have needed. I highly recommend Casa Cassel for anyone traveling thru east Texas." | |||||||

| Comments: (3/20/07) - "Large, clean, well bedded, well lit stalls for our horses and a charming, clean, well stocked barn apartment for us. The Elliots, like their ranch, five star all the way. Try the Marietta Mercantile for the very best steak you'll ever sink your teeth into. Then check your apartment firdge the next morning, you're likely to find everything for a satisfying breakfast and maybe some of Frances' fabulous homemade banana bread.". . . (3/30/09) - "Charles and Frances run a five-star horse motel for horse and owner alike. Accommodations are surprisingly beautiful and comfortable including flat-screen TV, full kitchen and bath. Horse stalls are clean and well supplied. Breakfast foods are delicious, especially Frances' homemade banana bread. Their TX hospitality parallels the peaceful northeast TX setting.". . . (7/12/09) - "The owners went out of their way to take us in. The property, barn and apartment are all gorgeous. We would chose to stay there again, should we find the need.". . . (12/28/09) - "The Elliot's were awesome and so is the ranch! Would highly recommend and would stay again if the need arises! Very nice apartment and stalls!". . . (3/11/11) - "Mr. and Mrs. Elliott are very sweet. I have had the opportunity to stay with them twice. The room is very clean and comfortable. This time around my horses seemed to remember the place and were very at home within minutes. Always bananas, banana bread and milk waiting for you. Always a smile coming and going. Would stay there anytime.". . . (5/13/11) - "Well our trip started out terrible and we knew several hours into the trip that we were not going to make our intended stop. Charles & Frances took us in with just a few hours notice and even waited up till after midnight to greet us!! They were Phenominal hosts!! My husband, myself and our 2 small children chose to stay in the barn apartment, which was immaculate, and very accommodating. And Frances even had a loaf of banana bread waiting for us on the counter when we arrived!! My mare was in a HUGE grassy turnout, just behind the barn and she LOVED it! Definitely recommend to EVERYONE going through this area and we would absolutely stay again!! Very private and quiet facility, felt very safe and secure! A VERY BIG THANKS TO CHARLES & FRANCES!". . . (11/12/11) - "The lodging was nicer than my own home. The stalls for the horses are across the alley from the motel room. Frances and Charles (the owners) are great hosts. Frances surprised us with a fresh loaf of banana nut bread. What a treat. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone traveling with or without a horse.". . . (11/13/11) - "This was my first time to stay at Chula Vista with four of my Miniature Donkeys. We stayed on our way to Kentucky and again on our return. It is now ranked as A-1 top places to stay on my list. Everything was perfect and the apartment so near my donkeys was like a dream come true. Wish I could have that at home! The Elliotts made us feel right at home. It will be my regular stop when heading east from now on." | |||||||

| Comments: (1/1/10) - "Thank you so much Cheryl for everything! We didn't get in until 4am and you were so accommodating. Your barn was perfect, thank you for having them ready for us! We especially loved that we could stay on site in your little guest house, it was like a little honeymoon suite! We will definitely be back and we really enjoyed staying at your place! Jeanne.". . . (4/27/10) - "Darling bunk house. Very nice stable. Large pastures, round pen, etc. All I could ask for in a an overnight stop for our horse and ourselves. A definite repeat for us.". . . (7/13/10) - "We had such a pleasant stay at this facility and will return as well as refer to our friends! The hosts were very friendly and helpful! They made our stay very comfortable with their hospitality! Thanks!". . . (8/10/10) - "Cheryl & Steve could not have been better hosts. We had an electrical problem with our trailer brakes...they got on the phone and located a neighbor who diagnosed and fixed the problem. The barn was clean...our horses were comfortable...we felt that we made new friends. Gene & Sandy.". . . (12/14/10) - "The host went out of his way to have everything just perfect. There was availablity to everything we needed from the best food places to the best vet. We felt very comfortable and so did our horses. Great place." | |||||||

| Comments: (4/10/05) - "We have stayed with the Millers more than once and they consistently provided a safe, relaxing atmosphere for both us and the horses we were transporting. We'll certainly use them again.". . .(4/24/08) - "Wonderful place for a layover. Water and electricity for hookup of living quarters trailers.". . . (6/11/09) - "As many times as we cross through Texas, I have no idea how we have managed to miss this 'find' so many times! We booked last second, Walt got there after 11PM, but the Millers were ready and helpful, the facility was VERY easy to find and get into. The stalls were nicely bedded and good sized, the barn coud use a hosing, but the overall experience was certainly positive enough to ensure that Walt will be back again and again. I scored neutral on the human food and lodging simply because getting there so late it was not an issue and we just don't know the reality of the situation. It is often tricky to find a good horse hotel on certain routes, this was a very pleasant surprise, and the answer to our prayers!". . . (3/22/11) - "Beautiful place, wonderful hosts, our horses loved the accommodations. Thank you, Joy, for the wonderful stay!" | |||||||

| Comments: (7/20/07) - "Andreia and Rex are two of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. They have their own horses on the property as well, so they know how horses should be cared for. Safety was never an issue while we were there. Thanks!!". . .(8/26/07) - "We were greeted and treated as friends! Rex and Andrea were very friendly and helpful and able to give us directions to hotel and recommended a Mexican Restaurant for evening dining. Thankyou for wonderful service! I would definitely board my horse here again if I'm passing this way.". . .(2/10/08) - "Rex and Andrea were very friendly and helpful. I opted to leave my horse in one of their pastures over night since he had been cooped up in a trailer all day. He loved it! He had plenty of room to run around and lots of good grass to munch on. I would definitely board my horse here again!". . .(6/9/08) - "After a long day of traveling my horse loved to be able to run around in a nice big pasture! Will definitely board my horse here again if passing through the area.". . . (4/8/10) - "We were met on arrival and shown to the round pen and stall with clean water available. The hosts were very accommodating, providing flashlights and running an extension cord to our trailer. The entrance was a bit of a challenge for our 4-horse gooseneck, but doable. The turn-around and camping is in a grass field.". . . (8/20/10 - "Rex drove 32 miles to meet us on mid afternoon arrival, helped unload, provided water and fresh hay. Helped load @ 6:30 am and was very helpful and friendly. Horses were secure and happy. Will stay again and would recommend." | |||||||

| (Editor's Comments: Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only some of the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.) Comments: (6/27/05) - "Sam Cruse is one of the most genuinely friendly and helpful people I have ever come across. You could not ask for a better person to take care of your horse, and I would highly recommend Cruse Acres to anyone passing through the area.". . .(6/26/06) - "Sam and Laurie were wonderful hosts. The facility is easy to find and met all of our needs. Hosts even trimmed tree branches to allow our big rig access without scratches. Thanks again. We will definitely visit again.". . .(7/24/06) - "Wow - couldn't ask for better. Fresh hay, fresh water, big, clean covered turn outs, very friendly host, right off the interstate - we will be back!!!". . .(9/18/06) - "Outstanding Texas hospitality!!!". . .(9/26/06) - "Great facility, easy to find, Sammy was a great host. Took a nice ride on their 200 acres.". . .(6/19/07) - ". . . Sam owns and runs an excellent facility. Our horses went right to the water and hay. Next morning they were fresh and sharp. Sam is professional but makes you a friend with his good humor and kindness. This is the place to overnight horses in Witchita Falls, TX. Very easy motel and highway access. I personally recommend him to all my riding friends.". . .(10/30/07) - "Just to let anyone know that if you are needing to stay in Texas I highly recommend Sam Cruse. At the time of my arrival (wich was very late) my stalls were ready with hay and a hand shake. The people there are ones that I would consider friends. They made my two day stay memorable. Thanks Sam and friends.". . .(3/30/08) - "Excellent facility. Vet is on the property and the owners were excellent with taking care of my tired horses. I would recommend this horse lodging to all of my horse friends.". . .(7/11/08) - "Cruse Acres is a great place to stop. Stalls were ready with hay and water when we arrived after 12 hours on the road. The stalls are very large with soft bedding and huge water tanks so our horses could rest comfortably. Sam is a very friendly host and you feel most welcomed at his facility.". . . (7/28/09) - "Repeat customer. This is 'heaven' for both horse and owner, when making a trip...You just can't ask for more!". . . (8/2/09) - "I was on the way home from NHSRA finals with my son and two other teenage boys. Mr. Cruse was waiting on us when we pulled in rather late, the stalls were ready for the horses with hay and water. Stalls were huge, Jack layed down and rolled as soon as he was in. Mr cruse recommended a hotel and a place to eat breakfast, We were tired of the trailer life and wanted some real beds to sleep in. Mr Cruse took great care of the horses for the night. If we are ever out the way again we will definitely stop there!". . . (3/2/10) - "An amazing place. Very happy after a long days drive to be greeted late at night by Sam and was pleasantly surprised that everything was ready for our two horses. All we had to do was unload them and walk them to their stalls. Our trip took longer than first had planned and Sam waited up for us until 11:30pm. The next night we were at a facility that was horribly run and had not one thing ready for us after a month long reservation. Thank you Sam so much for your hospitality and friendliness. If we ever come through texas again we would be sure to drive a little out of our way to stay with you again! Thanks so much!. . . (6/22/10) - "Sam is very personable and helpful. Facilities were excellent, and we felt very comfortable leaving our horses there overnight after a long day's haul. We will definitely stay here again. The stalls are large and safe, with plenty of water and good hay provided.". . . (7/4/10) - "Their listing here refers to an upcoming "bunkhouse" for guests on the premises. That descriptions definitely does not do their guest room any sort of justice! I would never have stayed there in a "bunkhouse," but the new on-premises guest room is lovely, and it was my favorite overnight stay on a trip which started in Florida and ended in Colorado. The oversize stalls are beautiful, and are situated on a bluff overlooking Wichita Falls. I'm sure there is always a nice breeze for the horses, and there wasn't an insect pest around, despite my having been there at the end of June. Sam Cruse welcomed me and made me feel totally at home and welcome, as did the other few people I encountered there. My horse and I so enjoyed our stop there; I have no doubt we'll return.". . . (10/31/10) - "OMG, if you want chocolates on the pillow, stay somewhere else, if you want a clean safe fun experience, where your horse is the top concern, this is it. They even mucked my trailer out before we left! We are going to look for rides in the area just to stay there again. Perfect place for the traveling horseman.". . . (12/14/10) - "Sam and Laurie are great people. The stay is great. It has everything you need. Sam and Laurie are great hosts. The horses are secure and {the facility is} very relaxing for them. Thank you for everyting.". . . (3/29/11) - "I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is needing a place to stay along with facilities for your horses. It was so nice to have your horse right out your door with a facility that was absolutely magnificant! I will definitely be back to enjoy the accommodations again. Thank you, Chelsea.". . . (12/2/11) - "We stay with Sam every year for the Thanksgiving barrel race in Wichita Falls. It has always been one of our most favorite places to stay! This year we decided to stay in the new bunkhouse, and I must say that Sam outdid himself! Our horses, as well as ourselves, were extremely pampered and I HIGHLY recommend Legacy Park to anyone who wants a good night sleep and great hospitality!". . . (12/11/11) - "Huge stalls, friendly owner, great place.". . . (12/17/11) - "Sam and Laurie are the best people in the world. The place is excellent to stay at. Its nice to stay when you can feel right at home. Horses loved it. Thanks for everything." |

| Comments: (10/4/11) - "Owners were available via email and telephone prior to arrival for precise directions to property and even arranged to have their farrier come out a couple hours after we got there since my horse had pulled a shoe the night before in a different state where it was impossible to find a farrier to come out until two days later (!) Falconwood's farrier was punctual and professional. Our horses had clean stalls, fresh water, and anything else they needed. Mr. Everett was very hospitable and showed us around the property, which is gated and in a lovely location. The apartment was clean and had everything anyone would need for a comfortable stay. We (as well as our animals) enjoyed overnighting at Falconwood after an 8 hour drive and highly recommend the facility to anyone travelling through the area with horses.". . . (11/12/11) - "My gelding is 17.1 hands so I was thrilled the stall was an over-sized one (12'x14' ?). Host was very friendly and helpful. Lots of hotels around and a few food places. Facility is gated. Would definitely recommend this horse hotel!" | |||||||
